100 Years of Marguerite Angels

2025

Seemingly fragile in their childlike innocence, the delicate Marguerite Angels exude a captivating charm. Their diverse activities make them sought-after collector's items and charming gifts. By now, there is a remarkable assembly of 180 heavenly messengers, and their milestone anniversary in 2025 will be celebrated with special events, offers, and an enchanting product range.

The design history of the Marguerite Angels

Early beginnings and refinement

On February 2, 1925, Olly Sommer, later Wendt, put pen to paper and designed an almost fragile-looking little being in a white dress, with delicate, blue-and-white wings and a wreath of marguerites in its blond hair. In 1929, she added three standing angels, each barely 1.5 inches tall, adorned with cake, flowers, and two candles, to represent well-wishers. From 1935 onwards, numerous suspended heavenly messengers were added to the collection, and since 1958, the Marguerite Angels in a ring have beautifully enriched the product range.

180 Marguerite Angels have been created to date, with more than 40 of them featured in our current collection. Starting in early summer, an overview of the history and variety of the figurines will be available in a book.

enchanting novelties

Marguerite angels and their friends

Spring will be heavenly: from March, an extraordinary anniversary figurine will be added to the range. It truly invites you to dream: The Marguerite Angel has settled down in the middle of fluffy cotton clouds. He is holding two bright yellow stars in his hands - you would think he had just “plucked” them from the sky. The angel with the characteristic wreath of flowers and delicate feather wings was designed by Olly Sommer, later Wendt, on February 2, 1925. This makes it one of the very first Marguerite Angels she designed. Later this year, this heavenly messenger will be joined by a Marguerite Angel who makes an artistic paper star and one who swings in a ring with a miniature doll. The sets, each consisting of a hand-blown glass bell from the Inge-Glas manufactory combined with a Marguerite Angel in a ring, are also particularly eye-catching.

Designer Olly Wendt, née Sommer

Creator of the Marguerite Angels

One name is inextricably linked with Wendt & Kühn: Olly Wendt, née Sommer. She first began working at the manufactory as a craftswoman on February 15, 1920. But what started as an internship would evolve into a lifetime of creative work in Grünhainichen. Over the course of more than 60 years, Olly left her creative mark on the history of Wendt & Kühn as a designer. Many of the figurines in our collection bear her unmistakable signature, from the Marguerite Angels to the intricately and richly painted angels, enchanting animal figurines, and the “Moon Family” with their gentle smiles.
